With the beginning of the summer season, no doubt you have already seen the many advertisements on T.V for keeping your skin safe from the sun with sunscreen. Have you really taken a look at your sunscreen bottle, and have you read what the ingredients are? Have you wondered like us, how our ancestors survived outdoors, working and living outdoors. How is it, that now the sun is a deadly weapon against the human race.
Think about it, our bodies while being in the sun, produces vitamin D, sunscreen blocks up to 99.9% of our production of vitamin D. You ask what does vitamin D do for our bodies, well lets take a look. It supports your cardiovascular health, promotes optimal cholesterol levels, enhances your muscle strength, optimizes blood pressure levels, helps with a healthy immune system, supports healthy kidney functions, promotes healthy teeth, and keeps your bones strong and healthy.
Just remember if you are looking for vitamin D in oral supplements, it can take 6 months or longer to normalize, so you need to get your blood tested to avoid over dosing. We are not telling you to go out and play outside with no sun protection, but make sure you are being protected from sunburning, not sun exposure. Studies have revealed that people who spend time outdoors without getting sunburned, actually decrease their risk of developing melanoma.
Now lets discuss, the toxicity of many of the sunscreen brands you have heard of. If your sunscreen has any of these chemicals, throw them out. The main chemical for UVB protection is octyl methoxycinnamate or OMC for short, this is found to kill mouse cells, and it is in 90% of sunscreens, and has been shown to be toxic when exposed to the sun.
Here is a list of commonly used chemicals in sunscreen which have been shown to be highly toxic, and very carcinogenic: para amino benzoic acid, octyl salicyclate, avobenzone, oxybenzone, cinoxate, padimat O, dioxybenzone, phenylbenzimidazole, homosalate, sulisobenzone, menthyl anthranilate, trolamine salicyclate, octocrylene. Many of these chemicals, are absorbed through the skin, and flow through the bloodstream. So your best bet, is to look for a natural sunscreen that has titanium diozide, and zinc oxide, which are minerals that come from clay and beach sand deposits, which means they are not harsh, man-made chemicals. So before you go out, and have fun with the family, go over to Vitamin Cottage or
Horn of Plenty and take a look at their natural sunscreens, and make sure before you buy, please, please read the labels. Know what you are putting on your skin, and the skin of your family. It is the largest organ of the body, afterall.
