A sore throat may be the first sign of a cold or an indication that you could have strep throat. Either way, the pain is uncomfortable. Want some relief? Try these home remedies:
1. Do a warm saltwater gargle several times a day to loosen mucus and flush out bacteria. Don’t swallow the water. Spit it out.
2. Use a menthol or eucalyptus essential oil, a natural cough drop or throat spray.
3. Stay hydrated. Water is best.
4. Drink tea. Add a teaspoon of honey for added antibacterial boost.
5. Chicken soup has some anti-inflammatory properties and may be the only nourishment you can take it.
6. Marshmallows may actually have some pain relieving benefit as well. (This was a new one to me.)
7. Sleep helps. Don’t try to carry on your normal routine. You will be more miserable.
